The Work of The Desert Research Institute and The Nature Conservancy Locally and Globally to Meet Our Climate Challenges
Hear from NV IWF member, Mauricia Baca, State Director The Nature Conservancy, and Kumud Acharya, President of Desert Research Institute about the ways their organizations are collaborating on climate and the environment.
Mauricia Baca became the State Director for the Nevada Chapter of the Nature Conservancy in November 2020. The mission of The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is to conserve the lands and waters on which all life depends. Its vision is a world where the diversity of life thrives, and people act to conserve nature for its own sake and its ability to fulfill our needs and enrich our lives. Since 1984, Nevada’s Chapter has worked with partners to preserve and protect critical natural landscapes and resources for our community. In this decade, it is focused on land, water and climate.
As President of the Desert Research Institute, Kumud Acharya leads over 600 scientists, engineers, and research support staff who rank among the top in the world in their specialties. Together, their mission is to investigate the effects of natural and human-induced environmental change and work toward solutions to some of our most pressing environmental challenges, in Nevada and around the world.
