FOR NORTHERN NEVADA'S FIRST MEETING OF 2022

Please note this meeting has been changed to a virtual meeting, via Zoom, due to the current COVID challenges.

It was originally set up as in-person for our northern Nevada members but all members all welcome to join!

Cary Groth, CEO of The Pictor Group and one of our very own

NV IWF members, will be joining us to talk about her incredible life journey through sports. We will get to hear about what she faced as a female Athletic Director in such a male-dominated field, and also about the new Sports Management program she has launched at UNR.

Cary Groth has nearly 40 years of intercollegiate athletics leadership experience at the NCAA Division 1 FBS level She is one of only five women that has served in the role of Director of Athletics at two FBS institutions: Northern Illinois University (1994-2004) and the University of Nevada (2004-2013).   Prior to her time as a Director of Athletics, she served as a collegiate tennis coach and held various senior level athletics management positions.  She has a proven track record of leading programs to competitive and academic success in addition to increasing program revenue in nearly every category.

Both NIU and the University of Nevada earned more conference championships in all sports under Cary’s leadership and both institutions reached rankings of top 10 in the national football polls.  Cary is credited for one of the best college football turnarounds in NCAA history at NIU.

As Athletics Director, Cary’s programs have also been nationally recognized for their commitment to equity and diversity.  In 2002, Cary served as one of four Athletics Directors in the country on President Bush’s Department of Education's Commission on Opportunity in Athletics that was charged to revisit longstanding and well-established Title IX enforcement guidelines.

In 2014, Cary co-founded The PICTOR Group, the only intercollegiate consulting firm led by women. The PICTOR Group has served over 90 clients and is now regarded as one of the top consulting firms in intercollegiate athletics.

In 2020 she worked with the University of Nevada College of Business to design and implement an undergraduate sports management minor and a graduate certificate program and EMBA in Sports Management. The programs began in the spring of 2021 and are taught by industry professionals from around the country making it one of the most unique programs offered.

Cary has been commended for her success and expertise in many areas of collegiate athletics, higher education and community work.  She was recognized as the National Association of Collegiate Women's Athletic Administrators Division 1A Administrator of the Year and the Women's Basketball Coaches' Association Administrator of the Year. Cary was inducted into the Northern Illinois University Hall of Fame as an athlete, coach and administrator and was a recipient of the NIU Distinguished Alumni Award. She has received numerous Community Awards over the years for her volunteer and leadership work. She is an active board member of Truckee Meadows Community College Foundation Board and presents at various local, regional and national conferences and organizations.
