The Desert Research Foundation (DRI) and the DRI Foundation’s annual Nevada Medal Event has been the signature event for DRI for decades. Two Nevada IWF members are on the board of trustees of the DRI Foundation and serve with a number of prominent Nevadans. Tina Quigley, Vice President of Nevada IWF serves as the Foundation’s immediate past chair and longtime Nevada IWF member Kristin McMillan recently joined the board. This year, the Medal event will be held virtually and will honor the 2021 DRI Nevada Medal winner, Dr. Kathryn Sullivan, distinguished scientist, astronaut and explorer. Dr. Sullivan is the first American woman to walk in space and the first woman to reach the deepest-known place in our oceans. She is also a member of IWF Ohio.
The program is titled “Sea, Earth & Sky: Celebrating the Spirit of Scientific Exploration, Discovery and Innovation” and a key feature of the program will include a sit-down chat between Dr. Sullivan and James Fallows, award-winning writer and National Correspondent for The Atlantic. In addition to Dr. Sullivan and Mr. Fallows, other special guests will be making appearances including U.S. Senators Catherine Cortez Masto and Jacky Rosen, Governor Sisolak, NSHE Chancellor Dr. Melody Rose, and former Nevada Lieutenant Governor and recent inductee to the Nevada Senate Hall of Fame, Sue Wagner.
