The Future of Education in Nevada

Nevadan's must unite over values in education.

"The future of Nevada's education system and economy have felt more fragile and uncertain than they have in over a decade."

"What can we do to make sure kids continue to learn? How do we 'fix' the impact of this global pandemic on teaching and learning?"

Please read this Blog Post.

Then join us on October 13th where
Jana Wilcox Lavin, Executive Director of Opportunity 180,
will talk through
~What feels missing in our environment,
~How Opportunity 180 plays a role, and
~How NV IWF members can be a part of the solution.

Jana Wilcox Lavin
Executive Director

Champions for Quality Education

No matter how complex a school system is, ensuring every kid can access a great school does not have to be difficult. Results from successful models across the country consistently reveal Five Simple Truths for a system of great schools, regardless of changing political conditions:

Jana Wilcox Lavin came to Nevada to serve as the Superintendent-in-residence of the Nevada State Achievement School District. Prior to that, Jana split her time between Philadelphia, PA and Memphis, TN. She served as both the Chief Program Officer and the Executive Director for Memphis Scholars, for Charter Management Organization Scholar Academies (now DC Scholars Community Schools, Philly Scholars & Memphis Scholars). As Memphis Executive Director, Jana designed, developed and executed Scholar Academies’ city-wide strategic plan to partner with the Tennessee Achievement School District to turnaround the lowest performing schools in the State.

During her tenure in Memphis, Jana served as a founding member of the Tennessee Achievement School District’s Operator Advisory Council collaborating with TNASD leadership and Memphis charter leaders in developing District policies and informing District-wide practice. In her role as Chief Program Officer, Jana managed a national team whose goal was to codify school-based programs and build resources for schools to use to drive student achievement. Jana had previously served as Scholar Academies’ Chief Operating Officer where she led the organization’s strategy, operations and school launch teams, opening schools in Philadelphia, Washington, DC and Trenton, NJ.

Jana Wilcox Lavin first moved to Philadelphia to work for a social enterprise firm where she managed a portfolio of non-profit programs supporting fundraising, strategic planning, program execution and organizational development. Jana’s previous work includes the start-up of a consulting firm in Washington, DC designed to improve the connection between secondary education, higher education and the industry in support of various workforce and economic development initiatives. Outside of her work life, Jana is a volunteer for local and national animal welfare organizations as well for her high school Alma Mater, The Hotchkiss School. Jana is a graduate of Tulane University (B.A.) and Emerson College (M.A.).
