Bio
A graduate of Arizona State University and the University of Tulsa School of Law, Ms. Blumen practiced law in southern Nevada for over twenty years. For two terms, she sat as a member of Governor Miller’s cabinet as Chairman of the Colorado River Commission, dealing in issues of water and power. Among honors received by Ms. Blumen are: 1985 American Bar Association Silver Gavel Award and 1994 Broadcaster of the Year Award. She is a 1995 Inductee in the Annenburg Hall of Fame; 1997 Evening Star Tribute Honoree; 2001 Community Achievement Award – Humanitarian; and inducted in the 2003 InBusiness Most Influential Businesswomen in Southern Nevada. She is co-author of Avoiding Teacher Malpractice, a practical legal handbook for the teaching professional, Hawthorne Press 1976. She sat on the Board of Fellows of Southern Utah University, and is a member of the Nevada State Bar Committee on Moral Character and Fitness and the International Women’s Forum, Nevada Chapter. In 1997, she founded the Foundation for an Independent Tomorrow, of which she is currently Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board.
