A long-time business and community leader in Nevada, Valerie’s accomplishments in advertising, public relations and beyond have been widely recognized including being named Master Entrepreneur of the Year by the Business Report; Marketer of the Year by the American Marketing Association; Thomas C. Wilson, Lifetime Achievement Award by the Advertising Association of Northern Nevada; co-Advertising Person of the Year by the Reno Ad Club; Ad Woman of the Year by Reno Women in Advertising; Hall of Fame recipient from the Public Relations Society of America (Sierra Nevada Chapter); the Junior Achievement Business Leaders Hall of Fame award; Girl Scouts of the Sierra Women in Leadership award; University of Nevada Alumni Association Professional Achievement award and the Raymond I. Smith Civic Leader of the Year Award by the Reno-Sparks Chamber of Commerce.
Valerie attributes much of her professional success to her extensive community involvement. She has served as chairman of the board of the following organizations: Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada (EDAWN), Nevada Women’s Fund, Nevada Museum of Art, Nevadaworks, University of Nevada College of Business Advisory Board, Reno-Sparks Chamber of Commerce, WIN and the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women Inaugural Luncheon and the Nevada Chapter of the International Women’s Forum. Valerie currently serves on the board of EMPLOYERS Holdings, Inc. (EIG on the NYSE) where she is past chair of the Compensation Committee and current chair of Board Governance and Nominating.
Valerie has been married to her husband, John, since 1981 and has three grown children: son J.P. (Colie), daughter Kelly and stepdaughter KayCee Goman (Nick).
