Bio
Beth Barbre is President and CEO of Nevada Ballet Theatre, one of the state’s largest non-profit performing arts organizations, with a $5.5 million annual budget and affiliated school of 400 students. She leads and manages all aspects of the 47-year-old ballet company, including artistic, administrative and educational activities, productions, marketing, events, fundraising, board recruitment and governance, and community outreach. Since joining NBT in 2006, Beth has strengthened the company’s finances, enhanced its artistic repertoire and expanded its impact in the community.
Under Beth’s leadership, NBT has eliminated its accumulated deficit and its annual budget has grown by 40%. She has overseen the selection of a new Artistic Director, Academy Principal and teachers who have lifted the quality of the company’s performances and training regimen. She has also helped secure major grants to support artistic growth and significantly expand the company’s “Future Dance” and other outreach programs, which now serve more than 20,000 Clark County students each year.
In 2007, Beth worked with Cirque de Soleil to conceive and launch A Choreographers’ Showcase, a unique collaboration of NBT and Cirque artists that recently celebrated its 11th year of performances.
In 2009, Beth negotiated an agreement with Caesars Entertainment to move the company’s Nutcracker production to Paris Las Vegas, where revenues more than doubled over three years. She helped pave the way for NBT’s May 5, 2012 debut performance as a Resident Company of the $475 million Smith Center for the Performing Arts. For the fall 2012 season, she arranged a first-ever collaboration between three ballet companies to dance George Balanchine’s famed ballet, Jewels, on the stage of Reynolds Hall at the Smith Center. In December of that year, the company premiered its new $2 million production of the Nutcracker on the same stage.
Before joining NBT, Beth served for seven years as Managing Director of Oregon Ballet Theatre, where she eliminated the company’s accumulated debt and led a $4 million capital campaign to acquire and build the company’s first home on a full city block in Portland.
Beth began her career in performing arts as a finance assistant and then associate at the New York City Ballet, America’s pre-eminent ballet company. She was promoted to Company Manager of NYCB and served in that role for five years. She was then appointed Administrator of The George Balanchine Trust in New York City, where for five years she licensed the works of the 20th Century’s greatest choreographer. She also served as Treasurer of the George Balanchine Foundation, where she oversaw a $1.75 million endowment and coordinated video documentation of the master’s works.
Beth earned her B.A. from the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. She studied for one term at St. Johns College, Oxford. Beth earned her M.A. degree in Performing Arts Administration from New York University.
